Culture Club - Kissing to be clever
National Album Day 2024
Led by Boy George, a renowned figure in London’s vibrant Blitz Club scene of the early 1980s, Culture Club were at the forefront of the New Romantic movement, helping to spearhead the “Second British Invasion” of the US thanks to the release of their 1982 debut album, Kissing to Be Clever. A No.5 hit at home and a chart contender around the world, the album included the global smash hit ‘Do You Really Want to Hurt Me’ and the playful horns-assisted pop of ‘I’ll Tumble 4 Ya’, alongside seven other songs that showcased the group’s catchy mix of new wave, pop, reggae and soul music. With their genre- mashing sound and vibrant fashions influencing today’s up-and-coming acts, Culture Club’s popularity shows no sign of dimming, and you wouldn’t bet against them adding to the long list of awards they’ve already amassed in their four-decade-plus career.
